Summer Skin Care Essentials

Summertime vacation season is here! I'm sure you're looking forward to a little rest and relaxation. Depending on your schedule while you are away, you may even have opportunities to enjoy a little extra "me time" to work in some supplemental skin care treatments.

Here are a few essentials I make sure are in my travel bag for summertime trips.

  1. Facial Cleanser is a must! While I know it may be tempting to pack facial wipes, they are just not great for your skin. Wipes may contain ingredients that damage your skin's natural barrier. They also do not completely remove all of the residue on your face which can lead to clogged pores. I know that's hard to hear, but it's true.

I also like to have micellar water with me too as a midday freshen up. If I've been on the beach or out hiking in the morning, and return to home base, I'll use micellar water to freshen up my face before reapplying my facial sunscreen, which brings us to #2.

  2. Facial and Body Sunscreen are critical. I use a daily moisturizer that contains a 30 SPF and reapply it frequently throughout the day if I'm in a location where I'll be in direct sunlight most of the day. And, of course applying sunscreen to the rest of your body is important too! The sunscreen that you use on your body may not be good for your face. Read your labels carefully and if in doubt, ask your dermatologist or physician.

  3. Oil Blotters can save the day if you have oily skin. I keep these on hand especially if I'm attending a special event such as a wedding, anniversary or graduation party. These are thin tissue paper-like blotters that absorb excess oil from your skin without removing your makeup.

  4. Masking Products are not something I pack for everyday use; however, indulging in a great pore cleansing or moisturizing sheet mask is a wonderful treat after a day of sight seeing or building sandcastles with your kids.

Have a great vacation!
